Why Wellness Services

Why Wellness Services

One of the best things you can do for your pet is to keep them healthy.   Bringing your pets in for regular examinations and vaccinations is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to ensure their health. Dogs and cats (and other pets) age far faster than people, so significant changes in your pets health can happen in a short time.  Wellness Services allow us to diagnose diseases and conditions early, when they are easier to treat or manage. Often, we can help prevent diseases entirely, just by ensuring that your pet has received appropriate vaccinations and preventives.  Preventive care can improve your pets quality of life and help you enjoy more healthy years together.
In addition to the many benefits for the health of your pet provided by these wellness Services. Wellness Services include significant savings, for care you were already planning to give to your pet, when your pet is in a wellness Service compared to regular charges. Another huge advantage is that the cost of the wellness Services is spread out over twelve affordable monthly payments, allowing better budgeting of funds and less of a financial hit if everything was to be paid for when services were rendered.

INSURANCE PLANS

Why Pet Insurance
Is Important

With all the new procedures and advanced treatments for pet illnesses come greater costs, and pet parents are not always prepared to pay for pet medical care. Approximately $24.5 billion is spent annually on veterinary care in the United States. It’s estimated that your pet has a 33 percent chance of becoming injured or ill each year and there is a 92 percent chance that they will need medical care at least once in their lifetime.

What are pet parents doing to protect themselves and their pets in the case of injuries or unexpected illnesses? Many are enrolling in pet insurance plans. When pet parents can let their veterinarian run tests, diagnose, and treat an injury or illness correctly, everybody wins! We invite every pet parent to consider pet insurance so that their pet has access to the care they need.

Differences in Pet Insurance Plans

Most pet health insurance plans have a few basics in common. You usually pay a monthly premium; select an annual or per incident deductible amount; can go to any veterinarian you choose; pay your vet first, file a claim and then get reimbursed; and pre-existing conditions and related treatments are not covered. Breeding issues, experimental treatments, and cosmetic surgery like declawing and tail docking are also typically not covered. There are also substantial differences between companies. These differences often impact if your claim is covered or how much you get reimbursed after a veterinary visit. Some of the most important differences are:

  • Whether congenital and hereditary conditions (like hip dysplasia, heart defects, eye cataracts or diabetes) are covered;
  • How the reimbursement is calculated (based on the actual vet bill, a benefit schedule or usual and customary rates);
  • Whether there are any limits or caps applied to your reimbursement (per incident, per year or over the pet’s lifetime); and
  • Whether there is an annual contract that determines anything diagnosed in the previous year of coverage is considered pre-existing the next year; and
  • Whether their customers are happy with their customer care and claims experience.

Difference

Pet owners tend to confuse a wellness plan with health insurance, and with good reason. They both help dog owners better afford medical care by allowing them to pay monthly or annually for coverage. However, they provide very different forms of coverage.

Insurance usually covers high-cost medical care that can set you back thousands for one condition. Most policies cover accidents, illnesses, chronic conditions, surgeries, and emergency room care, for example. Basically, unexpected health problems that arise with your pet.

With wellness plans, you’ll pay a small monthly payment. Unlike insurance, you’ll pay the cost of care when it happens and then file a claim with the insurance company. Your company will then reimburse you a set amount based on your reimbursement rate after meeting your yearly deductible on the services.

A wellness plan for your pet, however, provides coverage that your insurance policy doesn’t. Consider it a blanket of extra coverage. So, a wellness plan can help you budget the costs by providing coverage for things like:

  • Pest prevention (fleas, ticks, and heartworm)
  • Vaccinations
  • Dental exams and cleaning
  • Spaying or neutering
  • Diagnostic tests (fecal exams, urinalysis, and bloodwork)
  • Annual vet exams
